Creating a special report, or a more in-depth written summary about any particular topic, is a great way to increase your income and help to establish yourself as an expert in your field.

Special reports are written information that is longer than an article but not quite as long as an e-book. Special reports are typically about ten pages long and contain in-depth information on one specific topic related to your business and of interest to your target market.

Annette + Powerbook + Teh InterwebzIf the topic is something that is important to your target market, then a special report can be a great way to add an additional stream of income to your current business. By making recommendations in your report and adding affiliate links, your readers will likely click on the links, giving you an affiliate commission.

After all, your existing clients will already value what you have to say on a wide-range of topics. For those people who are not as familiar with you and your business, a special report can be a fairly inexpensive way to introduce yourself, invite them to your website, or encourage them to register for your mailing list.

Many people have made a nice business of just selling their special reports but you can also give them away for free. If you offer important and practical information in these reports and encourage your readers to share them with friends, you will benefit from this “viral marketing” with more visitors to your website and more list subscribers. Best of all, this can all be achieved without spending a penny (unless, of course, you hire a ghostwriter).

A freebie is a great way to gain people’s trust and get their attention, allowing you to promote your other products and services to them as the next step. After being exposed to your knowledge and expertise through the free special report, they will be more likely to purchase your other products or services, once again helping to increase your income.

Therefore, whether you choose to create a special report to sell or one to give away, it can still be a source of additional or added income for your business, not to mention exposure and an added level of experience for you.
