Why Every Mom Should Twitter
May 29, 2009 by Erin Hill
I’m new to the whole social networking thing. If you had asked me what Twitter was a month ago, before Ashton Kutcher out-tweeted CNN, I would’ve given you a deer- in-the-headlights look.
Most of my Facebook (which I also just figured out how to use) savvy friends and family don’t Twitter. A lot of them say, “Well if I Facebook, I don’t need to Twitter”. Oh, how wrong they are!
Most people see Twitter as a marketing and networking tool. Which it is! But I’m having the most fun with it for other reasons. I’m especially trying to get my mom friends to Twitter because I think it’s the perfect way to keep in touch with people, in under 140 characters – the limit Twitter sets on each tweet. Because when you’re a busy mom, who has the time to write an email?
But, for those moms out there who’re still holding out, these are the reasons why I think you should Twitter:
- You can connect with other moms. Thousands of other moms if you want. Most of the people I follow are moms I’ve never met. But they have very interesting and funny things to tweet about motherhood.
- You can ask for advice about anything. Oprah just sent out a tweet asking how to get rid of ticks on dogs.
- You can follow celebrities and your favorite T.V. shows like Ellen and Oprah
- If you have hobbies or interests, there are plenty of people to follow on Twitter that have those same hobbies and interests. I just added a bunch of Disney tweeple to follow.
- If you want to keep up with news or major websites, most of them are on Twitter. So this saves you tons of time as you get news and updates instantly.
And if you do join Twitter, you should join TwitterMoms. It’s a social network of moms who Twitter. TwitterMoms has groups you can join based on your interests, and has active forums and current blog posts written by members.
Please feel free to follow me on Twitter. I’ll follow you back as long as you don’t spam me!
Happy Tweeting!
