What Would You Say to Nadya Suleman?

Update below!

nadya-sulemanSo Nadya Suleman has just given birth to eight babies. Everyone is talking about it. Like most people, when I first heard I was filled with wonder and amazement.

Then as the full story started to come out – she’s a single mother with six children already, she’s unemployed, etc – the wonder turned into something else.

I’ll admit it – I’ve wondered if she’s playing with a full deck of cards.

I understand a woman’s deep desire to have children and I’m grateful for modern fertility treatment – but wow…

I’m not going to magpie all of the ‘how could she’ comments that so many other people are making.

I just can’t stop thinking about those babies.

As a proud aunt of quadruplets – I know a thing or two about multiples and even after being there for my niece and her husband through her pregnancy and the first 16 months of their babies lives – I can still say that I can’t imagine what it will be like for this gal with EIGHT babies.

There were a lot of times when our babies came home that we needed one adult for every baby and an extra to put up bottles or run errands. Twice one of the babies had to be hospitalized for an infection, which meant that our careteam had to be split over two locations. It was a major push for our family and involved a lot of extra support from neighbors and area churches.

When I think about Nadya and her six at home and eight more on the way there – my mind boggles. She will need a small army!

Nadya spoke up for herself in a recent interview. She says she’ll be able to support her children when she finishes her education. Say what??? Is she crazy?

Hmmm… I guess I already mentioned my opinions on that.

Nutbar or not – I do pray that God sends her a lot of help – a lot of long term, patient, baby loving help!

Update: There is a new website that has been set up to take donations.  ‘The Nadya Suleman Family” site at this time displays NO information about how the donations will be used or background on the group collecting the donations.  I find that a little ridiculous.

    Amen!

Just changing diapers is going to be a full-time job for someone . . . it looks like she has two others young enough to be in diapers still, so we`re talking TEN kids to change. Ack.

I understand wanting a big family. I do, too. BUT . . . you have to be reasonable! I only have two because we`ve thought about the costs and how much time we can dedicate to our children, I think she`s missed that part!

Maybe she’s hoping for a reality show?

  4. Lexi says:

Well i don’t want to judge anybody. I for one am all tuckered out with 3 – and only 1 is still in diapers. Nadya will definitely need a lot of help. I pray that she gets it.

  5. Having kids to fill a need in yourself is never the right reason. But, they are here now and I do pray that God sends the right people into their lives to ensure they all receive the love and attention every baby deserves!

I really hope that she is able to find help that is also there for the right reasons. I really fear that she has some serious issues. To echo what Deb said, Liz Smith in her celebrity column said it best, and I paraphrase, “I’ll bet she’s never missed an episode of Jon and Kate Plus Eight”. :)

I’m personally sick of seeing people sell their private family moments to television shows. Seems that the desire to do that in itself (not saying she wants to, but I’ll go out on a limb and guess that it’s crossed her mind) calls into question their “nutbar” status. I’d love it if these precious kids could get help from volunteers and live their little lives in privacy and dignity. That’s what I hope for the Octuplets and all of these other kids on television.

  7. Jane says:

I wonder how she plans on paying all the bills that children incure. My husband and I had 2 because we did not have the income to raise more than that, even though I would have really liked to have had a huge family. Maybe I’m being heartless but I don’t think that the rest of the country should have to pay for other peoples children just because. How about some personal responsiblity here?

  8. Dr. Wasserman says:

NBC is utterly shameless for featuring this publicity crazed dysfunctional woman on the Today Show. Henceforth I am going to eschew all NBC shows and sponsors whenever possible. They are revolting for advancing this woman’s desperate quest for fame. Just because she was able to find an unscrupulous, ambition crazed doctor, is absolutely no reason to herald her ill conceived madness in achieving a feat that most child bearing women could accomplish. I just cannot believe that NBC enables such irresponsibility. Fire the bastards.

  9. Barbara says:

She seems to be in serious denial thinking she isn’t going to be completely overwhelmed and that she is going to be able to support 14 kids when she hasn’t even gotten her degree yet. And that she can even get it while taking care of 14 kids. I hope for the sake of those babies that she gets a LOT of help and that all this negative publicity surrounding her doesn’t affect those chances.

  10. Kelly says:

But Dr. Wasserman – we WANTED to hear it from her own mouth. How does that make NBC wrong?

  11. Kelly says:

Jen – we love to watch all those private moments! I’m not a Jon & Kate viewer but I have watched a lot of ‘multiples’ television programs with fascination while we were waiting for our quads to be born. (Now we just watch the real thing he he)

  12. Dr. Wasserman says:

It makes NBC the Jerry Springer or Montel Williams show. Class less an whorerific.
