Working from home is not an easy task. Moms who work from home are stay-at-home mothers that have pursued a career that allows them to help their families financially while they care for their children. Time management is important for these moms to devote time to work and time to their children.

Set a schedule. Whenever there are multiple tasks to be completed, a schedule assures that you will stay on task. Make sure that the times that you choose for various activities will be ones that you can commit to each day. Setting unrealistic time lines will undermine your attempts at organization.

Organize your kids. For children spending the day at home, routine is important. Try to schedule their nap times during the best time of day for you to conduct your business affairs. This gives you the peace and quiet you need to operate your business.

If your kids wake up late in the morning, split your workday into a morning session and an afternoon session. If you have a lot of work to do on the computer, get that done during the morning hours. Save conferences and phone calls for the afternoon during the times when your kids are asleep.

Save housework for the weekend. Running a business and policing the children will take most of the day. Your spouse will be able to help with the children on the weekends. Keeping the dishes washed and dinner made will be enough to do each day.

Prepare meals ahead of time to limit time spent in the kitchen. The idea of a business, any business, is to make it grow. Your at-home business is no different. To give the business the attention it needs, other jobs in the house have to be streamlined. For your children, prepare their breakfast and lunch and put it in microwaveable containers. I like to cook several dinners on Sunday and reheat them for meals during the week.

Set up outdoor activities for the kids on lighter work days. It’s hard to take your laptop to the park to work and also watch your kids at play. Enjoying the activities with your kids will give you a much needed stress release and also please your kids. Don’t let one priority interfere with another. Every aspect of your day should get its own individual attention.

Time management is critical to the work at home mom. If there is no set plan in place for your kids and your business, things will go haywire and nothing will get done. Schedule time in your day for every task you want to complete and stick to it as closely as possible.
