Do You Squidoo?

What does a giant squid and stuffed cabbage have to do with making money at home? Magnetic money clip

I got an email the other day with a quote credited to 1996 US Presidential candidate Ross Perot: “Get up in the morning and look in the mirror. You’re your own job security.”

Couldn’t have said it better myself! Used to be that I believed that a home business was the ticket to financial freedom; these days my feeling is that it may be the ticket to financial stability. I’m in the sub-section of baby boomers that is not counting on Social Security to even be available by the time I’m ready to use it. We’ve homeschooled for years, and have always relied on a single income to get by. My husband has been working in the construction industry for decades, and we watch in horror as that industry is being decimated on so many levels. Yup, for us, working at home in a viable business seems to be not only our ticket to retirement, but maybe to the electric bill next month.

10 Ways to Rejuvenate in 10 Minutes a Day

This article was written by Guest Blogger Katy Lee of
Adventures In Parenting.

It’s common knowledge that a mom’s job is 24/7.

But if you’re a WAHM, you’re on not just 24/7; it’s more like 48/14!

When the kids are settled, there is business to handle. Once business is taken care of for the day, the kids are back in action. In this global tech-based economy, our business is often 24/7, as much as our family demands are 24/7.

While working at home with the benefit of being with our children is undoubtedly having the best of both worlds, the joy can be robbed if we are overworked. That just defeats the whole reason for staying at home, doesn’t it?

Sure, a vacation in Hawaii would be nice! Well, a little more than nice. But I’ve found that one big vacation a year doesn’t take the stress out of the other 50 weeks.

Does Your Family View Your Business With Skepticism?

This article is written by Guest Blogger Pat Fenner of Network From Home.

OK, maybe I’m writing this for a select few of us. Maybe there are only 1 or 2 out there whose
husband responded with “That’s nice, dear” or “Just don’t get too carried away with it”, when you told them you wanted to start a home-business. Or whose teens smirked and giggled when you told them you would be using the internet. Maybe this will only appeal to the few who have to work in the basement while hubby’s at work for the day, or who can’t celebrate any milestones with them because their business hasn’t “proven itself” yet.

DSC_0035.JPGBut I don’t think so.

More and more as I talk to women in the home-business world, these are the stories I hear. I know they’re real, because I speak from experience as well (but, no, I’m not in the basement…). Now, I could take a bitter and hurtful tone with this piece; go on a diatribe against men and superiority complexes and not being taken seriously and the like; whine and moan and complain.

But I won’t.

I’d rather take the higher ground: turn things around…learn lessons…provide a solution!

So what I want to offer to you today is a positive spin on your experience (now stay with me, here) – how can you make the best of this situation?

What Does Your eBay Day Consist Of?

This article was written by Guest Blogger Jennifer Cangelosi from Boutique Bargains.

EBay is a fantastic way to make extra income. We’ve determined that from the beginning. For someone just starting out, eBay is way easier than opening up shop through your own website and praying the traffic will find you in the virtual world.

I recently received a question from a fellow eBay mom….

Moving inI have been wondering this for a while. I need to turn eBay into a full time job and I was wondering how do you get a lot of stuff listed in one day?

If you do eBay full time, what does your day consist of? How do you list? I have experimented with a lot of ways to get things listed and I just can’t get more then 20 listed a day and that is work all day long on it.

How can I get in my head that this is my job and I need to work it like a real job?

If you are buried under inventory, overwhelmed with photo editing, and can’t wrap your brain around what to list next – know that you are not alone.

My Journey To Work At Home Success

We all have our passion. Something we just absolutely love to do. Whether or not you choose to make money with it is entirely up to you!

I never imagined my career path would lead me to this point in my life. I also never dreamed that my passion would develop into what it has today. Where I came from and where I am now, is like comparing apples to oranges.

Let me take you back to where I began…

Over 10 years ago, I was working in Corporate Banking as a Retail Sales Analyst with more than 500 branches to report on. At the time, I thought I was in the prime of my career. Making an excellent salary, a head honcho to many, and well respected in the industry.

In those days, still in it’s infancy, eBay was purely a hobby for me. However, I could tell the moment I joined that it would be a long lasting relationship ;-) .

It was evident that I had the buying end of eBay down pat. Still a ‘newbie’, I began exploring the pros & cons of selling. Then it dawned on me: If you can find such great deals to purchase on eBay, it must be possible to make a few bucks selling on eBay!

Once I made this discovery, all chaos broke loose!! Yep… if it wasn’t nailed down to the floor in my house, it was being sold on eBay. Purely an addict at this point, the fire was lit and burning out of control. Anything and everything that wasn’t being used or hadn’t been used for any length of time, was being sold on eBay. It was such a high!

Working full time at the bank, making decent money, and selling on eBay for extra fun money – life was good!

Then I received notice that cut backs would leave me unemployed within a year… UGH, total downward spiral. It wasn’t something I was prepared for. I loved my job and hated to think that being unemployed was in my future. Then, guess what else we found out? We were pregnant with our first child! You can imagine the emotions at this point. Leaving the corporate environment at 7 months pregnant wasn’t easy for me. Especially not knowing what the future held.

Torn with the choice of staying at home or going back into the corporate world after my daughter was born, was a big challenge. After all, my brother and I were latch-key kids – we turned out OK! Both of my parents worked full time and got through it.

In my heart, going back to work just wasn’t what I wanted to do.

We would be ‘OK’ for a while on one income, but we were not financially prepared enough to live comfortably on my husband’s salary alone. So my brain was turning as to HOW to make this work AND stay home with our new baby.

And so, I decided to take a shot at turning eBay into a career! I began feverishly learning and expanding on my base knowledge, and trying to figure out the secrets to eBay success. Selling everything from Monopoly pieces to my own car, selling items for friends and family, scouring yard sales, Thrift Stores and Estate Sales — searching for the perfect profits to be made.

In the end, my passion for boutique children’s clothing is what I kept going back to. And not just because we had a beautiful new daughter! Have you seen the ending prices on some of these boutique items? Now THAT’S something I can get used to! Real Boutique Clothing is a very tight market, and very hard to find at much less than 50% off retail. Near impossible to find wholesale unless you own a retail establishment. But I was SO determined to find out HOW to do it and make it work without leaving my home.

That is when I found Boutique Bargains.

Boutique Bargains is not a store where you can buy Boutique clothes for boys and girls. I wish it was that easy! It’s a private membership site where boutique-loving moms seek out networking and mentoring advice for selling boutique children’s clothing on eBay. That’s exactly what I needed! Someone to cut through the mumbo jumbo and show me how to improve on this money-making venture. It was wonderful to be able to share experiences with people who had similar interests.

After being a member for a couple of years, successfully selling on eBay, and most importantly… still working from home, I am now co-owner of Boutique Bargains! Sharing what I’ve been through and showing you how to succeed is my passion. Keeping the torch lit for other moms who are in the same situation and want to learn and grow in their online auction business.
