Get Creative

With these hard economic times that we are living in, many of us are searching for ways to save this holiday season.  For some of us it isn’t anything new, we’ve always liked to try to spend as little as possible on our gifts, knowing that it is the thought that counts right?

So, why not put a little more “thought” into your gift giving this year and get creative.  Think about the things or activities that the people on your list enjoy and then create a gift to suit their likes and personality.  For the cook in your life, create a handmade book of recipes.  There are dozens of websites online now where you can easily find new recipes they might have never tried before.

For the book worm, why not make them a bookmark or a basket or some type box to hold their books by their nightstand or in their bathroom where they might spend time reading.

For the couch potato you could make them some coasters for their favorite beverage to rest on as they peruse the channels.

There are many, many gift ideas that you can create yourself if you just spend some time thinking, and getting creative.  It is sure to result in some great gifts as well as happy recipients and less stress on you when the holidays are over and you know you haven’t broke the bank.

Making Christmas Count

It’s that time of year and we are all worrying about the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.  Likely we’re getting wrapped up in the parties, the gifts, the trimmings not to mention the food.  But, have you stopped to think about those who are less fortunate than you that may not have all those many things to look forward to, maybe none of them at all.

There are many ways during the holiday season that you can reach out to others.  Especially those whom are less fortunate than you.  So, before you get caught up in all that is going on during this happy time of year, take the time to remember those whose holiday may not be all that happy and do something for them which will make this season a little more joyful.

Fix a meal and take it to a needy family,  send a shoebox to a child around the globe who has never received a Christmas gift, serve in a local soup kitchen, buy an angel off an Angel tree to sponsor a local child’s Christmas.  Give, give of your time, give of  yourself.  Just give, and allow someone to share the joy that you have during this most important time of year.

Simple Gifts From Nature

I know many moms including myself are trying to find ways to cut back on spending these days . Gift giving
most likely is not top priority on the budget but with the holidays, birthdays, baby showers, bridal showers throughout the year we can’t just stop giving nor do we want to.

my ever expanding [rosemary] universe

Giving a handmade gift from nature is not only less expensive it is treasured and much appreciated because the recipient knows it was made from your heart with items and ingredients that are healthy, natural and eco friendly. It’s a whole bunch of goodness from the giver to the receiver.

You can find quite a few of the supplies needed within your own home or ask a friend or family member if they have any; I bet they would appreciate you taking some things off their hands. Even if you must purchase some of the supplies like the herbs and essential oils they are very inexpensive and can be found at your local health food store or you can order online and a little goes a long way. If you can’t get your hands on any fabric scraps Walmart usually has $1 per yard in their clearance.
