We’re sweating, and walking around in shorts, skirts or tank tops – we want to look hot too darn it!
But something about summer just makes that baby belly even feel more uncomfrtable – I don’t know it’s the heat or the humidity.
Putting on an oversized sweater certainly isn’t an option.
It’s time to DO something.
But how am I going to loose all the extra padding on such short notice you ask?
The nice thing is that you don’t have to.
YOU JUST HAVE TO START
Something I’ve noticed myself over various starts and stops in weight loss and fitness is that 99% of the results are in my head.
If I’m sticking to what I know works I see and feel better about myself in a matter of days.
I find myself feeling like I look better, and that is a major part of looking good.
It makes it easy to fake it till ya make it!
And then it’s only a matter of time before you really do start looking better.
Some definition and tone where there once was none, a glow in skin that was parched and sallow.
A smile in eyes that are ready to kick butt – and those shabby habits that we knew were no good all along.
So what are the basics?
WHERE TO START?
I find a few fundementals, used together, give me guaranteed results.
1 – Water: even 4 cups a day make a world of difference for me.
2 – Exercise: A challenging exercise routine a minimum of 3 – 5 times weekly including a weight bearing component – and walking or light exercise on the off days – leaving one day of rest.
3 – Diet: More veggies, fruits and protein with some complex carbs – lots of ‘fibre foods’. Little to no ‘dead foods’. Rev up the metabolism with smaller, more frequent and nutritious meals. Smoothies and homemade popsicles are a great habit to get into. Meal planning and planning ahead goes a long way to empowering better eating habits.
4 - Adequate sleep – Too little sleep means too tired to exercise or eat properly and also affects skin tone and attitude.
5 – A journal to record daily food – when and what I ate, how many calories etc, checkmark for exercise and water and my measurements each week. This is a big help to keep me accountable and to have to look back on when things don’t go so well.
6 – A support group. Having others to share your ups and downs, wins and losses, to ask questions and some days just vent can make or break your resolve and motivate you beyond your wildest expectations.
7 – Take some extra care of yourself in other areas. Do a face mask 1 – 2x per week, moisturize with a natural moisturizer morning and evenings, do your nails regularly with some of that new fangled natural nail polish – toe nails too, deep condition your hair and get a trim or a new do.
And pick out an outfit or a special treat such as… say a belly button ring to wear when you’re sizzlin’ this summer – SsSsSsSs…
