“Somersize” is the new program developed by Suzanne Somers (Three’s Company) in her book, Get Skinny on Fabulous Food. Suzanne teaches people how to eat normally and lose weight safely. Find out how to follow this new diet and realize a slimmer, healthier you.
In her book, Suzanne divides foods into four main groups: Proteins/Fats, Vegetables, Carbohydrates, and Fruit. Proteins include all meats, fish, poultry, and eggs. The fats include oil, butter, cream, and cheese. The vegetables she recommends should be eaten fresh whenever possible. Carbohydrates are whole-grain breads and pastas, beans and nuts, and non-fat dairy products. Fruits should be eaten fresh and not in juice form for greater nutritional benefit.
Suzanne’s program has two levels. The first level is the weight loss level and it is the longest. The length of time spent at this level depends on how much weight you want to lose. There is a list of foods that she states should not be eaten during this first level of the diet.
The foods that she recommends to be avoided are all high in sugar. All sugars should be avoided especially the sugars found in processed baked goods. Beets and carrots contain high sugar contents and should not be eaten at this time. Any drink with caffeine, including carbonated soda, coffee, tea, cocoa, and all alcohol are on the “do not consume” list.
Processed starches should be kept out of your diet. Common starches we all can name are: white potatoes, white flour products like biscuits, rolls, and sliced breads, sweet potatoes, bananas, corn, and squash. Starches increase our body’s fat stores if eaten too much. Healthier carbohydrates include most vegetables.
The Somersize plan says that proteins and fats can be consumed together. If you eat a shrimp for dinner, they can be sauted in butter. Carbohydrates should be consumed with vegetables. Brown rice and broccoli can be eaten together. Both are low in carbohydrates and contain fiber which is an undigested carbohydrate that passes straight through your system. Fruits should be eaten by themselves. They contain natural sugars that help to give you an energy boost.
There are a few things about this diet that are the same as others. You should never skip meals. If the body thinks that it’s in starvation mode, it will store all nutrients that it gets as fat. Eat every three hours. This gives the body time to begin digesting the food already eaten. Continually introducing small amounts of food into your system increases the metabolism.
Learning to eat foods in new combinations could make the difference between a plateau and getting the numbers to start dropping on the scale. If you are looking for a new eating plan, Somersize is worth a look.
