For some, being a stay-at-home mother is the ultimate job. They get to see their children grow up and have a hand in shaping their early life. But, even stay-at-home moms need a break. Is childcare an option in this case?
From early morning until the sun goes down, a mother is working around the household. Her duties do not end when the family has been fed. A stay-at-home mother is in charge of the household and the children.
Household duties have to be prioritized. In addition to the cleaning, mother’s usually schedule for any repairs or services around the house. These things have to work around her schedule of other tasks.
Such other tasks include activities outside the house. Children and mother’s need yearly appointments at the doctor and dentist office. Children have play groups. Moms are involved in church groups and other civic organizations.
In my experience, it is hard to pay attention to the cleaning when you have small children running around. For a stay-at-home mom, her schedule revolves around theirs. Moms need help sometimes to get everything done.
This is where a mother’s helper comes in. A mother’s helper is someone whose sole responsibility is the care of the children. This person frees mom up to perform the other tasks around the house.
A mother’s helper doesn’t need to be present every day. A mom may only need this person maybe twice a week on her busiest days. A mother’s helper watches the children while mom is still around the house in case a situation arises.
Mother’s helper should be someone that the kids like and know. He or she can be a young person from the neighborhood or a family member who needs some experience babysitting. They should like children and not tire easily when it comes to keeping them entertained.
Let your potential helper know your expectations from them during the interview. Tell them about your children and their individual personalities. Allow them the time at the end of the interview to ask any questions they may have about the job.
Scheduling your housework on the days that the helper is there will maximize their effectiveness. Every so often sneak a peak at how they interact with the children. If your children seem eager for the mother’s helper to come over, you have chosen well.
Having a mother’s helper allows mom to take care of the other responsibilities in the household. Children can enjoy themselves and play knowing that mom is nearby. Mom can then spend worry-free time with the children on other days.
