Sarah Jessica Parker’s Road To Motherhood

Jesica_4Who doesn’t think Sarah Jessica Parker is absolutely adorable? You can practically fit her in your pocket, and she’s always an incredibly positive and genuine person. Plus, she’s in one of my favorite movies, Footloose, so no matter what she’s within 1 degree of Kevin Bacon.

I was initially surprised to read in the news that she is expecting twins via a surrogate mom. Because most people start immediately thinking things like:

“Why would you let someone else carry your children?”

“Won’t you feel less like their mom if you didn’t carry them?”

But, Sarah Jessica Parker is her own person, isn’t she? She’s always pushing the boundaries (in a good way) of fashion. She has her own style, and she does what works for her. So, it makes total sense to me that she would take a little-taken path to motherhood.

She already has a son that is 6, and she herself said, “Well, you know, we’ve been trying to expand our family for a number of years and we actually have explored a variety of ways of doing so. This was one of the things we discussed with seriousness that had real possibilities for us.”

And she went on to say, “It would be odd to have made this choice if I was able to, you know, have successful pregnancies since my son’s birth.”

Like many of us, she’s had issues conceiving the second time around, and it sounds like she’s had to deal with pregnancy loss. So, once again she’s pushing boundaries, staying positive, and showing others how to do the same.

And I truly believe that no matter which road we take to motherhood, we are all mothers.

Plain and simple.

Please let me know your thoughts on surrogacy.  I welcome comments that both agree and disagree with me.

  1. I just read this article in Good Housekeeping (I was cleaning out our magazine basket). It was about a couple who struggled with infertility. They ended up having a bunch of frozen embryos after they were done having children. The decided to choose a couple to give them too. That couple had two babies and passed the embryos on. It was neat because now the three families get together and the kids (seven in all & look so much alike) have built relationships with one another! If it works it works!

  2. If it works, it works! I’ve met some women who’ve had so many issues conceiving, that it’s heartbreaking. We should support them in finding ways to fulfill their mommy dreams, even if it doesn’t follow the norm.
