Whether it’s a red balloon, black and white checks or a picture of a blue sky, children love color. Teaching them to recognize colors is not only educational but can be fun for everyone. The following article talks about tips to help your child recognize colors.
5 Tips to Help Your Child Recognize Colors
If you could recall when you were a child, do you remember the first color which brought you joy and amazement at the same time? Children love color, and in order to teach them to understand and enjoy different colors, here are 5 tips to help your child recognize colors.
* Purchase a large box of crayons.
* When you go for a walk with your child, point out the different color flowers and repeat the color.
* Using the wide variety of child’s books that are available; specifically picture books that are very colorful, point out the colors and repeat the word.
* Take out some fruit and place it on the kitchen table. Sit the child on your lap and point to each fruit; naming the color.
* Purchase a package of multicolored construction paper.
Teaching your child to recognize colors can be a fun and wonderful experience for you both. The look on a child’s face when they see a red balloon or a blue stuffed animal is priceless. Remember big bird? Just the size and color along made small children squeal with delight. The process by which you can teach your child to recognize colors is an easy one. You have probably begun the learning process as we speak. Babies love anything that’s colorful. Whether its balloons, toys, stuffed animals, dolls or blocks - they seem to hone in on bright colors such as red, blue, orange and yellow.
It’s easy enough to verbalize the color because as you know, your child will point to almost everything he or she sets their eyes on. As your child points to an object, repeat the color and what the object is as well. Keep repeating the color over and over as you point to it. Learning is accomplished through repetition. So gather up all of the colors within your home and as your child points to each object, say the color so that your child can freely associate it with other similar colors, say fruit or vegetables, perhaps.
Certainly these 5 tips to help your child recognize colors have probably been utilized, but nonetheless, there are so many books and TV shows for children which you can effectively use to point out different colors to your child. A bag of buttons is a wonderful tool to demonstrate different colors to your child. Once the association between the color and the object is made, the first component in the child’s learning process has begun. Have fun with your child by taking those crayons and scribble away on a sheet of white paper. Let your child hold the crayon, feel the texture and hold his or hand and make lines on a paper with them. You may find they have already chosen their perfect color!
