So goes my favorite U2 song and it seems more relevant than ever these days. Doom-and-gloom forecasts are everywhere at the moment, and seemingly with good reason.
I did a unit study on WWII last year with my kids. WWII history has always been one of my favorite subjects to read about. During a terrible time of war and catastrophe, stories of heroism, sacrifice and perseverance have surfaced and made a lasting impact on the generations to follow.
In the U.S., people pulled together, sacrificed, and planted victory gardens. In Europe, there were many who sacrificed their own well being by helping hide Jewish refugees in their own homes or helped them to find safety and freedom.
I’m not an economist nor politically savvy. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the coming months and years. I do know that whatever happens, the best things in life will still be free like a hug from a loved one, a beautiful sunset, the sound of a baby cooing or the laughter of a child.
With constant news updates on the Internet and TV, it can be easy for us to get sucked in. When media overload is overwhelming, just turn your computer off and go outside. Enjoy and marvel at this amazing earth we have been given to live in. Find something to do with your hands that doesn’t need technology.
Faith, family and community are what count in this life. They will get us through anything that this world can throw at us.
