300px-Gimp-utility-window-hintYesterday, I blogged about how digital scrapbooking is a way to document your family’s history.  Most people buy some kind of software like Adobe Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro for digital scrapbooking.  If you are just starting or don’t want to spend the money on a software program, you can try out a free graphics editor called GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program).

GIMP is an image retouching and editing tool.  It offers freeform drawing and retouching tools.  GIMP can accomplish essential image workflow steps such as:

  • resizing, editing, and cropping photos
  • combining multiple images
  • converting between different image formats
  • can be used to create basic animated images in the GIF format

Give it a try and let me know what you think!

I have GIMP, though I haven't mastered it yet. I do like the features it has, and the fact that it's free is very nice.
