Finding Nemo

The underwater world of a coral reef is not only beautiful but dangerous, as the Clownfish Marlin finds out, when an attack by enemies decimates his family, leaving only a young Clownfish son named Nemo. The two of them become inseparable, until Nemo’s first day of school, when a diver on the reef, bags the little fish and carts him off to be a new addition to the aquarium in a dentist’s office by the edge of Sydney Harbor.

Marlin, fearing for his son’s safety, bravely sets off to rescue him accompanied by the slightly dim-witted Dory, whose short-term memory loss provides the perfect foil for Marlin’s schemes and plans to rescue Nemo from his glass prison.

Meanwhile, Nemo is doing some scheming of his own. He grows in character, even as he grows impatient to find a way out of the tank and back to the ocean, where he won’t have to live with the foibles of humans all around him.

In between his coral reef home, and the tank where Nemo swims in circles, looking for a way out, are a host of animal characters imbued with human traits that work surprisingly well in this family fare movie.

This movie is definitely a benchmark when it comes to modern family movies. Despite the fact the movie starts out with an incredibly sad incident (which might upset some youngters — and adults alike), it definitely is heartwarming and provides great lessons for both parent and child.
