One of the symptoms that you will notice very early in pregnancy is fatigue. As your abdomen gets larger, you may get even more tired. Here are a few things you can do to deal with that rundown feeling.
If you are a first-time mom, feeling tired is not uncommon during pregnancy. Your body is now playing host to a new life. Everything inside of you is getting quite busy as your body prepares to hold the developing embryo. More of your body’s resources are working to make the baby feel right at home.
First, check your diet. As I said, your body is using all available resources to aid the developing fetus. In the coming months, a placenta will nourish the fetus until it is ready to be born. Extra energy is needed to create the placenta during the first trimester. Eating meals that are rich in protein and carbohydrates will give your body what it needs to aid the baby.
Fatigue may be your body’s way of letting you know that you need to slow down. At the beginning of pregnancy, there is no reason why a mother-to-be can’t continue to work and go about her normal activities. As the months of pregnancy continue, you may be overdoing it with your schedule. If your body is feeling in need of a rest, listen and take it easy.
Take this time to give yourself a much needed pampering. You are carrying a new life inside of you and that position demands respect. Instead of showers, allow yourself to take a long relaxing tub bath complete with bubbles. Let the housework be someone else’s responsibility for a change and take an afternoon nap on the couch.
Don’t let your exercise activities fall by the wayside. Fatigue can also be caused by too much rest and relaxation. Continuing to stay active everyday will aid in getting a good night’s rest and may lessen the fatigue.
Cut back your hours at work. If the fatigue is getting you down, go part-time later in your pregnancy. Leave work and go home to relax for a few hours. If you have other children, this gives you a break to yourself before they come home.
If you are pregnant and feeling tired all the time, listen to your body. New moms think that they can maintain their present schedule throughout the pregnancy with no change. Your baby and your body will let you know if this is true or not. Try these suggestions to help combat the fatigue during pregnancy. Remember though, that fatigue is not uncommon in a pregnant woman so don’t be too hard on yourself.
