If you have not heard of eBay, then where have you been? I like to call eBay the largest garage sale in the world. You could say it is a cyber garage sale. EBay improves upon the conventional garage sale, by making it so much easier to find the needle in the haystack with its powerful search engine. I have a friend who still burns gas and time going to garage sales and has met many people who say they wish they knew how to buy or sell on eBay.
I know what they are talking about. I visited eBay on a few occasions over the years, but I never bought anything. When a friend gave me a tour of eBay on her computer it opened my eyes. There is a humongous amount of reading one can do on eBay, even without looking at the lists of things for sale. I was glad that she spared me from having to read all of it to know how to do things on eBay.
My friend made me familiar with eBay by showing me different areas like the seller’s feedback, the search listings, the product description and emphasizing those aspects of them which were important. Sometimes it was the conspicuous lack of the words “new” or “smoke-free” that mattered most.
First, I needed to know how to find the things I wanted to buy. Next, I wanted to know the difference between fixed price and auction listings, and how the auctions work. It was also critical to know how to evaluate the trustworthiness of a seller by looking at their feedback statistics and recent comments. It was becoming versed in when to trust a seller that gave me the confidence to begin to buy.
When I became proficient at shopping on eBay, I also found it entertaining, too. Lately, I bought a couple of shirts that were brand-new with their tags and in their original plastic wrap. I got them both for less than a third of their retail price and that includes shipping. What can be more entertaining to the die-hard shopper than finding some great deals?
