Are you an optimist or a pessimist? Have you ever thought about how your daily mood affects your outlook on life?
If you tend to think negatively about everything – worrying that something bad will happen or that you have the worst luck in the world – there are ways to help you change that attitude to a positive one. Rather than focusing on the negative or bad things in life, here are some ways to learn how to appreciate every moment and the many good things in life that often go unnoticed.
1. Take Care of Yourself! — Stress is inevitable in today’s world but how we deal with stress is what’s important. Alleviate stress by exercising, talking to a friend, taking short breaks during the day, prayer/meditation, journaling, or even taking a warm bubble bath. No matter what you choose to do, try to have your surroundings quiet so you can truly relax and push the stress out of your mind.
Eating healthy foods and getting enough sleep are also important ways to take care of yourself. YOU are important so be sure to carve out some time EVERYDAY to be good to yourself. You will feel more refreshed, well-rested, and ready to tackle any problems that may arise.
2. Express Gratitude, Appreciation, or Thankfulness – Certainly you’ve heard the phrase, “You catch more bees with honey than with vinegar,” right? People respond positively to kindness, so the more kindness you spread, the more you will receive in return. Everyone needs to feel appreciated and even just smiling at someone a smile can greatly improve your mood.
3. Build Your Self-Confidence – Very often women lack self-confidence, or self-esteem, and how you feel about yourself will affect your interaction with others as well as your overall outlook on life. Start and end each day with a positive statement or thought, make a list of all your positive characteristics and achievements, take what you are good at and enhance it. Toot your own horn to others and let them know your accomplishments or what’s special about YOU.
Building up self-confidence takes time and commitment but it is well worth it. You will soon embrace yourself and give off a very positive energy that will surely come back to you.
4. Learn How To React To Negativity – When you find your blood pressure rising along with your stress level, no matter what the situation, it is then time to stop and think about how you’re reacting. Take a deep breath, walk away from the situation, and think about how you can handle your feelings. Writing in a journal, talking to a friend, or just going for a walk can all help clear your head and think of a solution to the problem.
5. Live For Today Rather Than In The Past – Yes, we can all learn from past mistakes, but when you dwell on these mistakes or can’t seem to forgive yourself for making mistakes is when you fall into the trap of living with a pessimistic outlook on life. Admit that you made past mistakes, feel the embarrassment, and then start saying your positive affirmations. No one is perfect and every human on the planet makes mistakes. Think of a way to avoid this mistake in the future and you will feel better about yourself and your life.
People who view life positively are often happier, less stressed out, and have fewer health problems. They look forward to getting up each morning and tend to appreciate the little things in life. This way of thinking doesn’t have to be unreachable to you. Simply work on one step at a time and soon you will be living life to the fullest!
