Moms… Multi-Task at Your Own Risk

Thank you to Heather of Recovering Working Mom for your fun and real story on how moms just need to focus on one task at a time!

Here’s what I’ve learned about multi-tasking: anyone who says they are “great at multi-tasking” has a bubble over their head that also says “I get distracted easily, probably have ADD, and am really good at a lot of things, but not great at anything!”. Either that, or they don’t have kids.

When I was working I had this multi-tasking thing nailed. I was so good that after having my third child, I was driving home from work one evening and talking on the phone, while also pumping breastmilk. My mother, who was on the other end of the phone, was horrified (in hindsight, I am too).

After six months at home with my kids, I now cannot keep anything straight! I used to be highly organized, but now I have to actually write myself notes and put myself on a schedule for everything I do. All this kid time has turned my multi-tasking brain to mush!

For your entertainment, here is an example of how multi-tasking can literally turn you into a bloody mess. While training for my second triathlon (and feeling newly confident in my multi-tasking sport), I was biking with my friend just before sunset. It was a clear day, and from my vantage point I could see all the way to the ocean. As I was riding my bike I had turned my head to enjoy the view and veered off the path. In trying to get back onto the path, I flipped over my bike and this was the result . . .

Ouch!

Not succumbing to the dangers of multi-tasking, the next day I decided that my injuries had made me a hard core athlete and I went running (although I made sure I didn’t use any apparatus where I could hurt myself). This was the result.

Double Ouch!

I had a severe allergic reaction and my eyes swelled shut. I now know that open wounds and moderate hayfever are not a good combination!!! Needless to say, I did not get in the water for several days for fear that I might actually get eaten by a shark!

The moral of this story . . . As I began my journey into stay at home motherhood, a wise woman said to me “You can have it all, just not all at once.” And I have the physical scars prove it. So, my words of wisdom to new at home moms…multi-task at your own risk!

Let’s Get Organized

How many times a month, a day or a week do you say to yourself that infamous statement:  “I need to be more organized”  ME?  I tell myself that at least once a day, if not twice or five time, especially after a frustrating day of not getting much of my To-Do List done.

Today, I am going to start a series of posts on being  more organized.  I have 2 all time favorite books on organization and time management (and believe me, I’ve have at least 10),are titled  Organizing From the Inside Out by Julie Morgenstern and  Time Management from the Inside Out by Julie Morgenstern.

I really like both those books because she tells/writes how to actually CHANGE your way of thinking, and not just make this list here, and follow this schedule there.   She just makes sense.

Tomorrow’s post will be on Goals…  I really hope you can join me on my journey to being more organized.

See ya tomorrow.

Blogging: The Fight!

Do I enjoy blogging? I honestly don’t know yet. I started blogging only about a month or so ago and I will be honest, I have not made myself get in that routine yet. Boy do I need some advice there…

I often wonder what to write. Sometimes I sit down and write this endless blog and delete it because I realize I’ve rambled or I think, “Seriously, who is going to read that.” Then that opens up the whole can of well how do I know if anyone is reading. Am I writing to nobody. But blogging is sometimes just meant for you to write correct?

Now that I’m a SAHM blogging has my attention. I want to do it, I like to do it, but I can’t get into it completely! I want to buy a domain but what if I don’t motivate myself and my blog gets neglected, what a waste of money right? Then I battle the name of my blog. If I make a domain what do I call it?

Is it just me? Am I the only one? Yes I see the internship  and that would be awesome but hello!! SAHM! We just gave up my income after my second son was born so right now is so not the time to spend money! HELP?

Work at Home and Stay at Home Moms live in isolation for long periods of time.  Everyday life spent mostly with little people and a lack of adult interaction on its own can be tough on moms.

Add financial, health, family or relationship problems and these moms go beyond feeling isolated – they become desperate for support and friendship.

Thank God for the internet!  What would we do without the friendships and sense of community that we find online?

Mom Bloggers I’m Watching

Our family’s long term goal is to have a family business where our children work alongside us.

To help us achieve our goal, there are some people I’ve been following and reading their blogs regularly.   We share the same passion for homeschooling and having an entrepreneurial mindset.

Here are a few of the bloggers:

rhearesize

Rhea Perry of Educating For Success – Her blog is Rhea Perry.  She has been homeschooling her 7 children since 1987.   She helps parents train their children to think like entrepreneurs and investors instead of thinking like employees.  Internet Marketer Armand Morin is her mentor and she is part of his mastermind group.

Her oldest son, Drew, was frustrating her when trying to figure out what he wanted to do with his life.  She had him spend time with different mentors to see if what he was interested in. He eventually became a real estate investor when he was 18 by selling houses on Ebay.  In just 3 years, he replaced his dad’s income.

debmaubach

Deb Maubach of Homeschool-Entrepreneur – Her blog is Homeschool Ent.  The Maubach family has been homeschooling since 1989.  Their website is full of ideas for home businesses and features stories about other homeschool families that want to embrace the entrepreneurial lifestyle.

Cheryl Henderson-Khalid of hs-wahm – Cheryl is fairly new to the scene.  Her blog recently won The Summer Blog Contest for the Mompreneur blog category.  The contest was sponsored by Homeschool Entrepreneur and the judge was Darren Rowse of Problogger.  Helping homeschoolers work at home is her passion.  Keep your eye on Cheryl!
