This continues our series about awesome charities that serve families – especially children – during the holiday season. This is the
fourth post.
This post isn’t about a ‘charity’, but more about how we as individuals can practice charity.
I remember in high school, there was a family next door to us that was going through a really rough patch. It was summer and their dad just lost his job and the mom was a stay at home mom and they were afraid they were going to lose their house. I couldn’t imagine being in that situation then, but fast forward to now, that is reality for a lot of people at this time. So many families don’t have food on their table or presents under their Christmas tree. How disheartening!
This is a call to action on what people like us who have an extra $5 or $10 to go out and buy a present for little Suzie next door. Wouldn’t that light up her face to know that she has a few presents under the tree to open come Christmas day?
All it takes is one person to start the pay it forward act and it will be a domino effect to showing kids what Christmas and love is all about. Even if it is something small or even something that your kids aren’t playing with anymore, I’m sure the family who doesn’t have a lot will appreciate what you give to them. Also, toys that you aren’t using can be donated too.
I love having my 2 year old pick out a toy he doesn’t want anymore and dropping it in the Salvation Army box. It’s moments like that, that remind me of what is truly important - the children.
