I admit it…I was one of those moms who was eagerly awaiting the school bus arrival so I wouldn’t feel so guilty about spending my daytime hours during the summer working instead of entertaining my children. Not that we didn’t have some fun-filled days and plenty of trips and travels, but the guilt was weighing pretty heavily.
So I hatched this “perfect” plan to work from the moment the school bus arrived in the morning until it came back on the return trip in the afternoon. I easily gained 7 1/2 hours of silence and no interruptions for 5 days out of the week. Certainly this was a perfect plan for growing my business and servicing my clients, right?
Well, partially right.
In nearly every month of the school calendar, my kids have at least one day off during the week. November is a doozy with Election Day off, Veteran’s Day off, 3 half days for parent teacher conferences, as well as the regular 3 days off for Thanksgiving. Plus this year we have two full weeks off for Christmas. Can you understand why I’m already getting sweaty palms at the idea of planning for all this time off?

Does Your Family View Your Business With Skepticism?

OK, maybe I’m writing this for a select few of us. Maybe there are only 1 or 2 out there whose
husband responded with “That’s nice, dear” or “Just don’t get too carried away with it”, when you told them you wanted to start a home-business. Or whose teens smirked and giggled when you told them you would be using the internet. Maybe this will only appeal to the few who have to work in the basement while hubby’s at work for the day, or who can’t celebrate any milestones with them because their business hasn’t “proven itself” yet.
More and more as I talk to women in the home-business world, these are the stories I hear. I know they’re real, because I speak from experience as well (but, no, I’m not in the basement…). Now, I could take a bitter and hurtful tone with this piece; go on a diatribe against men and superiority complexes and not being taken seriously and the like; whine and moan and complain.
But I won’t.
I’d rather take the higher ground: turn things around…learn lessons…provide a solution!
So what I want to offer to you today is a positive spin on your experience (now stay with me, here) – how can you make the best of this situation?

Considering Becoming an eBay Trading Assistant?

Way back, when my eBay curiosity was in its experimental stage, I tried a few different things to bring in extra cash - without spending a ton of money upfront.
One strategy I tried was becoming a registered Trading Assistant on eBay. I found that it was a great way to learn what was selling on eBay for a decent profit, what was good for donating to charities, and what was best to bring to the consignment shop. After all, some money is better than no money at all. By doing a ton of research and some trial and error, the development of a trained eye had emerged. Also, my repeat business of clients wanting to sell their things on eBay was pretty steady.
Here are some helpful tips that you may benefit from if you decide to become an eBay Trading Assistant:
Like any business, knowing upfront that it will take time to build & become successful is a good mind set to get into. You’re never guaranteed to rake in the big bucks. It can be tough at times and it’s certainly not for everyone.
Can it be done? Of Course!
