Use Your Mom Skills to Earn Extra Income Online

Dollars !The money isn’t going to reach the stratosphere, but there are ways to earn a little extra income right now–online.  Yes,  even during a chaotic economy, moms can still use their diverse skills to land new work opportunities and help support their families.

Your first stop is to browse through this site’s wonderful resources.  Start with  the work from home idea vault as a way to brainstorm on what you might want to do and how to go about it.  Then meander over to Profitable Mommy Blogging  for more ideas and product reviews.  Listen to one of Kelly’s WAHM talk radio podcasts to hear successful momprenuers and online managers discuss the steps they took to sustain that first website or land an online job.

If your heart says you’re a writer, then you probably know you can post articles and earn income by becoming an Associated Content writer, or freelance for Suite 101.  But you may not know that Examiner.com wants to hire 12,000 new writers.   That is, if you can post 3 or 4 new posts a week.  Or that About.com is looking for guides in dozens of areas.  If organizing, doing small tasks, chasing down an e-mail address or sorting through photos online appeals to you, become one of Amazon’s  Mturks.   Basically, an MTurker handles a variety of tasks–big and small–that companies farm out to 200,000 home workers in 100 countries (most workers are in the U.S. and India).  [Read more...]

Review: Start a Recipe Blog for Fun and Profit

jasrecipeblog-sm

We’re a foodie family and have been talking for months about starting a food blog, but never knew quite how to go about getting started. So I was very excited to receive Just Add Sweat’s How to Start a Recipe Blog for fun and profit to review. This guide will help you set up a recipe blog, step-by-step. Do you love cooking and writing? Are willing to learn to blog and put in the sweat and effort to get it started?

You will learn how to research a niche. Screenshots from Blogger will walk you through the process of setting up a blog (Blogger is the easiest platform to get started with.) You’ll learn how to find content and how to monetize your blog. Copyright and legal issues are also discussed.

Starting up a blog can be intimidating for some. After reading through this course, I feel completely prepared to start our recipe blog. All I have to do is “Just Add Sweat!”

Finally, An Easy Way to Learn WordPress!

theblogtutorial2-aI received Susan Whitehead’s The Blog Tutorial to watch and review. The Blog Tutorial consists of nine videos plus two bonus resources.

Many new bloggers like to start out with Blogger but WordPress is the platform of choice for the serious blogger who is interested in blogging for profit. There is a bigger learning curve than with Blogger, however, that keeps busy moms away.

In The Blog Tutorial, you will learn how to set up a web host, research a domain name, set up your WordPress blog, how to find and install themes and plugins, and how to monetize your blog.

I was able to learn and retain far more from watching the videos than I would have from reading a book. The videos show Susan actually working within WordPress. I have been using WordPress for about six months but I have really cemented my knowledge of WordPress after watching the videos in this course.

The videos can be watched on the site or downloaded to your computer. This course is very affordably priced at $47.00. Compare that to a computer class at a local community college!

Moms Turn Away from TV and Towards Blogs

Darren Rowse, the voice behind Problogger.net, has a fascinating post written by Michelle Mitchell (Scribbet) on why mom blogs are becoming the blogs to watch. As more moms turn off TV and log on to the ‘net, they tune in to the information, companionship, and resources found on mom blogs.

In addition, new mom blogs are popping up rapidly, adding to the plethora of information, niche areas, photos, sharing and humor found on many blogs. And as we all know, moms don’t just blog about being moms.

They blog about everything from the good and bad aspects of being a mom to being the economic decision-maker of the family, to solving the world’s economic and environmental problems. All in a day’s work.
