Mary Lutz is the Owner/Virtual Assistant of Professional Virtual Business Solutions. She explained to us what it’s like to be a vibrant, young grandmother in this week’s Buzz a Mom quick questions!
How do you like being a young grandmother? Any advantages you’d like to share with us?
I LOVE being a young Grandmother! I am so blessed that I get to interact with my grandkids the way I do. I think being a younger Grandmother certainly has its advantages because you get to see (most likely) your grandchildren grow up into adulthood and much later in life. Then there’s the possibility of enjoying your great grandkids at a younger age as well.
I love the fact that I am young enough to be active with my grandkids too. Being younger, I think I can relate to them better and will be able to even when they are older. There isn’t a huge generation gap as with older grandparents.
How many grandkids do you have and how many children?
I have 2 grandsons, ages 2 years old and almost 6 months old. I have 4 children, ages 16 to 25. The two grandsons are my oldest daughters.
Is it easier being a grandma rather than a mother?
Yes! For me at least. My daughter and her husband are great parents so I get to play with my grandsons and don’t have to “raise” them. I know there are many families where the grandmother or grandparents are raising their grandchildren so it can be different for them. But, for me, I just get to enjoy all their cuteness without having to discipline much. Not that I don’t discipline the 2 year old, because, hello he is two, but I just try to help direct him. I also try to give my daughter some advice in raising her kids, but over all she does a great job!
Do people believe you when you say you’re a grandmother because you are young?
No, most people are shocked when I tell them. They can’t believe it. I’m also young at heart so I don’t look my age (44).
