This week we had the pleasure of buzzing Dr. Daisy Sutherland of drmommychronicles.com. Aside from being a mommy, she’s a Doctor of Chiropractic by profession, freelance writer, business owner, office administrator, blogger, teacher (home schools her kiddos), chef (for a family of 7), chauffeur, cheer mom, baseball mom, very involved in her church, and too many more to list.
This busy mom’s mission in life is to help you help your family, so sit back, relax, and read about this remarkable woman.
Tell us a little about your background and your family.
I come from a Hispanic background which can probably explain my stubbornness:) For as long as I could remember I wanted to help others, at one point I wanted to join the Peace Corp. After my mom almost had a heart-attack from that news, I decided it was best for me to stay in this country:) I then chose the next best thing..becoming a Doctor. Being the health nut that I am I decided to go to Chiropractic School.
That’s my background…here’s a bit about my family…I am married to my soul-mate and will be celebrating 19 years this year…we have 5 children and because of them, I decided to put my profession on hold to home school them. This year we graduated our first and now have 4 more waiting in the wings. I have never regretted putting my profession on hold, since our children are young for a short time and I wanted to be part of their foundational years…home schooling is great, never a dull moment:)
How is your website Dr. Mommy Chronicles useful for moms?
On Dr. Mommy Chronicles, I not only share my life with 5 children but I also share home schooling tips for those possibly considering that wonderful venture.
I also share money saving tips, as well as menu ideas. Parenting is a huge job and responsibility, so I not only share advise but also help to motivate moms and let them know that they are not alone in this venture. Embrace it and enjoy your time with your children because they grow very fast.
Do you have any little-known tips for moms to help keep their families healthy?
One of the biggest tips I can share on keeping your family healthy is to avoid processed foods. We live in a rush-rush world and there are many choices of quick meals to make, but we must stop and take the time to read labels. Many of those quick meals are full of chemicals and preservatives that are harmful to our bodies.
Going back to the basics and making meals from scratch is not only healthier but it is a great way to get your family involved in the cooking process. My children are always in the kitchen with me, they learn to cook and enjoy homemade meals.
Always keep fruits and vegetables available for healthy and delicious snacks and make your own snacks with granola, raisins, and other dried fruits and of course make drinking water a staple in your home.
In a recent post, “My AHA Moment”, you write about your calling as a Christian Parenting Mentor. How do you mentor other parents, and why is being a mentor so important to you?
As a parent we are not given a manual when our children are born. Many of us will learn by trial and error or will have a mentor in our lives to help guide us when we are lost and confused.
My biggest mentor was my mom and when she died at a young age, I was alone and scared and worried of making mistakes with my children. One thing she taught me was to be strong and to instill the moral and values in my children to prepare them for the real world.
As a Doctor and mom to 5 children ages 6 to 18..I have experienced it all..or know someone close to me who has and I have taken those experiences both the good and bad and have learned from them. I use those same experiences to help mentor other moms. Sometimes moms just need to vent and share their problems with a mom who understands and can give them guidance and reassurance that they are doing a great job.
My entire mission is to help You to help your family and mentoring to moms helps me share that mission.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Wow, I am truly honored to have had the opportunity to share a bit about myself and my family. My entire mission is to help others. This has been a mission and vision of mine since I was a little girl and it continues to this day. From sharing health tips, to helping others with writing and editing to mentoring other Moms…I continue my mission and am grateful for the gifts I have been given and can share with others.

Thank you so much for having Dr. Daisy on your website. She is a wonderful “mom” mentor and has great advice.
I especially appreciated her mentioning the importance of keeping fresh fruits & vegetables & snacks available in your home. This is such an important point.
Remember as well, that if you have these available at all times it will keep your kids from wanting sugary snacks or foods & helps them have a healthier diet.
Having your family involved in the dinner preparation is also a great way to have “family time” and keep your family closer.
Thanks for all your great info. keep it up!
Alicia Bowyers last blog post..Jun 9, What would you do with 2 extra hours a week?
Thanks for the comment, Alicia! I loved interviewing Dr. Daisy because she’s so positive and helpful.
And thanks for your tips, too! Getting kids involved in helping in the kitchen definitely gets them more interested in trying new things. Even with my 2-year-old, it helps.
She is one awesome lady. And thanks for all the comments on my blog lately.
Nell
