high heeled shoes. According to an article in the Los Angeles Times, the average American woman now wears a size 14 and weighs 162.9 pounds. Many designers, though, still refuse to design clothes for the typical American figure.

And so it seems they are deliberately ignoring an underserved, multi-billion-dollar plus market. Not only are designers thumbing their noses, but trendy boutiques and department stores aren’t eager to stock larger sizes either, even though many stores are struggling just to stay afloat.

Considering that many of us Moms put on a few pounds after having kids – it’s particularly frustrating when it comes to looking for trendy clothes that don’t make us feel frumpy.

Seems like a great opportunity for department stores that are willing to carry stylish, affordable and well cut clothing lines. And for the daring designers/mompreneurs who will design even better fitting and stylish lines for the size 14, average American figure.
