Talking To Your Kids About Sex

Quite a topic, huh?  I have 2 teenage sons.  I have built a relationship with them that I hope will serve us all well as they being to enter the terrifying (to a mom) world of sexuality.  Here are some things that have worked for me.

Start When They Are Young

We didn’t call my boys “parts” wee-wee’s or pee-pee’s.  The were always penis’ and they knew when the asked that women had inside parts called a vagina.  Now I know that some of you are cringing just thinking about this, but it does help for them not to be afraid of these words.

When it came to “how they got out of my belly” that was an easy one for me personally.  I just had to show them my c-section scar.  But, I did tell them that usually the baby came out of the mommy’s vagina. [Read more...]

Diet Delights

Are You Dieting?

Because I know that most of the time I am, or I’m trying to.  I still haven’t lost my baby weight.  We won’t discuss the fact that my baby is 14!

Anyway, I’m always looking out for products that are diet friendly and taste great.  I feel like it’s a super-bonus when I find one that’s so good that my family has no idea that it’s low-calorie and fat-free.

Wishbone Bountifuls Italian dressing falls into that category.  This is how Wishbone describes it:

“A delectable Italian vinaigrette brimming with chunks of tomatoes, sweet onions, peppers and carrots.”

Their description is dead on with the added bonus that it’s not filled with high fructose corn syrup.  It seems that on every fat free dressing I find, the first ingredient is high fructose corn syrup, which isn’t terrible, but not great either.

Right over a fresh salad is great, but if you mix it with fresh vegetables, some warm low-calorie, low-carb pasta and put it in the fridge for a couple of hours, you end up with a fantastic pasta salad.  Give it a try!

*Please note that I am not being compensated for this post.  Just want moms and your families to have a healthy, yummy alternative.

Who Does She Think She Is?

100_4959Pam Hoerauf – That’s Who!

My name’s Pam and I was an intern here at Mom’s Resource Network in May.  Unfortunately the real world smacked me on the head and I was unable to complete my internship.  Kelly McCausey rocks, so she’s letting me give this a second chance.  Blogging is a passion of mine (I have 4 of my own) so I’m really excited to be back.

Tell Me More…

O.K., I will!  I’m a married mother of two teenage boys.  John is 17,  Jack is 14 and my husband Chris is an admissions counselor at a college.  I live in Michigan where we’re just getting ready to jump into the beauty of fall.  I’m pursuing my Bachelor Degree online and classes start 9/24 (ugh).  I love to read, write, camp & play with our miniature Schnauzer, Oskar.

Where’s This Blog Going?

Well that’s where I’d like your input.  As the mother of 2 teenagers, I’m sure that will dominate some of my discussions.  I can’t decide whether I want to grab them back and make them be my babies again, or just strangle them.  Am I the only mom who feels that way?

I’d like to discuss family, pets, hobbys, and probably whatever else wanders into my little brain.  What I need to know is what do you want to see in this blog?  What’s ticking you off?  What have you found that rocks your world?  What great/annoying thing is your kid doing this week?  I’d love to hear from all of you & look forward to getting to know you all over the next 10 weeks!
