Spring Cleaning – Get Rid of the Clutter

It’s getting to be that time of year again – time for Spring Cleaning!  I personally think that a key to spring cleaning is to get rid of clutter.  Here are a few tips to help you get started.

  • Before you bring in something new, take something old out.
  • Make sure that everything has a place.
  • If it’s too overwhelming, start with a small area to de-clutter.
  • Put things away as soon as you are done with them.
  • Use a cleaning routine.

These are just a few things you can do to help get rid of the clutter.  Even by spending just 10 minutes a day, you can be well on your way to a clutter free home!

How To Make Mornings Less Hectic

iMac G3 clockMornings can be a crazy time of the day.  There are backpacks to get ready, kids to get dressed, hair to brush – the list goes on and on.

Here are a few things that you can do to make mornings a little less hectic.

1.  Pick out clothes the night before.  It’s nice to just get up and grab my clothes before I head into the bathroom to shower.  Just one less thing to think about.  Pick out the kids clothes too or have them do so.  It will save time and headaches in the morning.

2.  Make lunches the night before.  This saves you not only the prep time in the morning, but the time of figuring out what you are going to take.

3.  Make sure all homework is done and packed and all necessary papers are looked at, signed, etc, and ready to go in the morning.

4.  Get the kids up a few minutes earlier than normal.  This gives them some time to maybe watch a quick cartoon or something and wake up a bit before you begin the hustle of the day.  I started doing that over the winter and believe it or not, the mornings went a bit smoother.

5.  Keep simple things on hand for breakfast such as frozen waffles or granola bars.  Let’s face it, not all mornings go smoothly and there isn’t always time, so a quick breakfast in the car on the way to the sitter’s or to school is sometimes necessary.

Mexican Chicken: A Crockpot Recipe

Crockpotluck!I LOVE my crock pot!!  As a working mom, I love that I can put a bunch of stuff before I leave for work that day, come home in the evening, and dinner is done!  I am always looking for new recipes.  This recipe is one that a friend of mine shared and it has quickly become a favorite in our house.

You Need:

  • 2 frozen chicken breasts
  • 1 can of corn
  • 1 can of black beans
  • 2 cups of salsa
  • 1 cube of cream cheese
  • 2 cups of rice

To make:

Put the frozen chicken, beans, corn & salsa in crock pot and cook on high for 4-5 hrs. Then shredded the chicken, add rice & cream cheese, turn off & let sit for 20 minutes.  Mix & serve!

Enjoy!

Time for Mom: Easy Beauty Treatments

This Is My Bathroom ShelfThe last few days we have talked about how moms can make time for themselves by spending more time with girlfriends and making time for exercise.

Another area that moms might neglect is themselves.  I know that for awhile I was not taking the 5 minutes even to wash my face at night.   While it would be nice to spend hours (and lots of money) at a spa, there are some simple things we can do at home just to make ourselves feel “pretty” that are also easy on the budget.

Here are a few ideas:

  • Give yourself a quick manicure.
  • Take a bubble bath.
  • After washing your face, take 10 minutes to try a beauty mask.  You can find one for just about any skin type.  While it’s working, read a magazine or catch up on email.
  • Use hand lotion throughout the day.  I know that sounds simple, but even just taking the time to keep your hands from getting dry can make you feel better.
  • Make sure your face lotion has sun screen.  Sometimes we are so busy making sure the kids are safe from the sun, we forget about ourselves.  Using a moisturizer with built in sunscreen is one less thing we have to worry about.
  • Put on lip gloss or lipstick.  Sometimes just this simple thing can make you feel better about yourself and more confident.

Take a few minutes to try one or more of these things listed and you will definitely notice a difference in how you feel about yourself.
