Eight is Enough!

Two brothers 20081229 - 04For those following my blog, you know that I have two beautiful boys, Jeffrey (4) and Tyler (6 days).  My parents have 8 grandchildren which is a blessing.  However, all 8 are boys.  You have got to see our get togethers.  Boys can really play rough.

I remember when I told my mom that my second child was going to be a boy.  She told me that she was very happy and that all that mattered was that he was healthy.  I believe her but I know that some part inside her wishes for a granddaughter.  Having two boys is a true blessing.  Believe me when I say that I did not care one way or the other if it was a boy or girl.  There are thousands of women out there who try desperately just to have a child that they cannot have.  Who am I to be upset over the gender?

A Car Seat Crisis – Coping with a New Addition

Asleep in the carJeffrey still goes to daycare about 2-3 times per week in order not to lose his spot.   Today was the first time that I took Jeffrey in my car.  This is the conversation that went on when he saw that I had switched his car seat from the back of the passenger side to behind me in order to put Tyler’s car seat where his USED to be.

Jeffrey (who took one look and started crying):  “Why is my car seat moved?”

My newborn weighed 9 lbs, so how did I only lose 7?

becks bellyMy pre-pregnancy weight was 124 lbs and the last time I weighed myself was 7 days before I gave birth and I weighed 187 lbs, gaining 63 pounds in total.  I had gained 67 at one point, but my weight fluctuated at the end once the cold weather started to come and I lost some of my water retention.

My whole point is that once Tyler was born, I figured that I would lose weight proportionate to what was coming out of me.  Let’s see, Tyler weighed exactly 9 lbs.  Then you factor in all the amniotic fluid, blood loss, placenta which should amount to at least 10 lbs.  So taking all this in, my expectation was that I would lose at least 19 pounds.   So I gave birth over 2 days ago and as I step on the scale, I saw that I still weigh 180 pounds.  I’m no math genius but I should have lost at least 15, or give me just the 9lbs that was my son’s.  So either my scale is broken or I gained another 15 pounds in one week which I know cannot be possible.

To Sleep… or not to Sleep

bondI knew that I should be expecting to be tired and not to geta  full night’s sleep, but no matter how much I mentally tried to prepare for this, I am still not ready for this. Tyler has reflux and major gas. Even though I’m breastfeeding (I thought it was suppose to be easily digested), about 10 minutes after he eats, he starts crying with pain for about 1 hour. He’s not close to be colicky, thank goodness, but it does make for a rough night.

So here I was 3:30 in the morning and doing bicycle motions with Tyler to help him with his gas. My son Jeffrey was sleeping with us on our bed. Ever since Tyler came home, he’s been wanting to do that and we’re o.k with that if it helps him adjust (even though we realized that a Queen sized bed no longer seems like a large size).

Christmas Cards….Oh Sh**

holiday cardsO.K, so it’s December 21st and I was getting ready for writing my next Saturday Product Review post until I realized that Christmas is only 3 days away.  Now normally this wouldn’t stress me except I realize that I still have not started writing out Christmas cards.  Not only have I not started writing them, but I still haven’t even bought the cards.

I am hoping that my friends and family will understand if they receive their cards a little late.  I only gave birth 4 days ago so I figure that I can still use that as a valid reason.  I know,  I know, I should have planned this out before I gave birth.  But when it comes to things like this, I always seem to plan it out last minute.
