This sounds like an annoying question that kids ask their parents when they are asked to do something they don’t particularly want to do. Instead, it is the name of a new movie featuring Ice Cube and Nia Long, produced by Columbia Pictures. For a few laughs, see this movie which opened on April 4th at a theater near you.
Are We Done Yet? is based on the 2005 film, Are We There Yet? Ice Cube starred as Nick Persons, a single man who falls for Suzanne Kingston, played by Nia Long. What he later finds out is that Suzanne has two kids: Lindsey who is thirteen and Kevin who is seven. This is not the news he wanted to hear, but he does like Suzanne.
Suzanne goes out of town on business and gets stuck in Vancouver, British Columbia. Nick, wanting to impress his new girlfriend, offers to drive her kids to be with her in Vancouver after their dad cancels his weekend with them. The entire movie is about the hilarious mishaps that occur on the trip from Portland, Oregon, to Vancouver. By the end of the movie, everyone is one big happy family.
In the 2007 release, Are We Done Yet? Nick and Suzanne are married and looking for a place to settle down with her two children, Lindsey and Kevin. Nick wants the house to be in the perfect neighborhood in the perfect suburbs outside the perfect city. One day, they spot the house of their dreams.
If you smell a “but” coming on, you’re right. But, the house needs a little work. Since the family is in love with the home, Nick sets about to find a contractor to do the renovations to their dream home. Enter John C. McGinley who plays the weird contractor that Nick hires to fix their home.
From the beginning this film’s trailer reminds me of the Tom Hank’s film, “The Money Pit”. The process of renovating the house purchased by Hanks and co-star, Shelley Long, leads to laughs galore. In both films, the men soon realize that their perfect home was really a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Everything is wrong with the house. As one thing is fixed, something else breaks down. On top of that, the local wildlife proved time and time again to be too much for Nick to handle. If you liked the first installment, this movie will provide laughs for the entire family.
“Are We Done Yet?” is directed and produced by Steve Carr. Reprising their roles for the second time are Ice Cube (Nick Persons), Nia Long (Suzanne), Aleisha Allen (Lindsey), and Philip Bolden (Kevin). The film was again shot in Vancouver, B.C.
