4 Beauty Products This Mom Can’t Live Without

May 18, 2009 by Erin Hill

MakeupBeing a busy mom of a very active toddler, I value beauty products that are quick and easy to put on, last long, and have no overpowering fragrance. If I had to be stranded on a desert island, I’d be sure to take these 4 products with me.

Cover Me Up Please

I’ve had skin issues since I was 8, and have been continually trying to find the best way to cover up those issues. It wasn’t until I got married 4 years ago, and met an awesome esthetician, that I found out about mineral makeup.

Mineral makeup sounded great in that it would be healthier for my skin, but I was worried that the foundation was a powder. I was used to slathering on liquid foundation to cover up my “problems”, and it worked well. Even if it was a bit messy.

However, when I put on Jane Iredale’s PurePressed powder foundation, I was shocked! It evened out my skin tone extremely well, and went on quickly and easily (which us moms like, right!), unlike liquid foundation.  It is my #1 favorite beauty product.

Baby Soft Skin

I’ve never paid much attention to lotions, but when my son was born, he had extremely bad eczema. We tried every type of lotion and salve out there and nothing seemed to take the eczema away completely.

Finally, I stumbled upon Vanicream Moisturizing Skin Cream in an article about eczema. I was happy to find out that it had no dyes, fragrance, lanolin, parabens, or formaldehyde.

It was difficult to find. I actually had to ask the pharmacist at Walgreens about it, and they had it behind the counter. Well, within 5 days my son’s eczema was gone. And my hands were baby soft!

Lipstick That Stays Put

I’m a lipstick kinda girl. You’ll never see me without it unless I’m working out or have just woken up. But, I hated having to apply it several times a day, especially after becoming a mom.

My awesome esthetician, who introduced me to mineral makeup, also introduced me to my favorite lipstick.  M.A.C. Pro Longwear Lipcolor stayed put through my entire wedding day: 12 hours of pictures, eating, drinking, kissing, and dancing on one of the hottest days of the year. I was hooked!

I use two different shades to make a soft pink color: For Keeps and Durashell. I put For Keeps on first, let it dry, and then apply Durashell. Guaranteed to last at least 12 hours. Perfect for the busy mom.

The Ultimate Fragrance

I’m a headache sufferer and one thing I can’t deal with is strong fragrances. I purposely avoid the perfume department at Macy’s and despise those girls who jump out at you trying to drench you with the latest much-too-strong perfume.

Years ago my mom introduced me to Avon’s Soft Musk. I was skeptical at first, but no perfume comes close to the sexy, warm scent. And I never have to worry about putting too much on as it isn’t overpowering.

Since I started wearing it, men AND women have commented on what a lovely scent it is. If you don’t believe me, just read the glowing reviews of very loyal fans on Avon’s site.

What are the beauty products you can’t live without? Please comment and let me know. I’d love to share your favorite products in a future post. I’ll be sure to give you all the credit!

  • Erin - GREAT info here! I love mineral makeup - it is good - and I'm a lipstick kinda girl, too, so I'm gonna check out the MAC longwear. (My girls love lip gloss, too! Must be genetic). My mom wears Soft Musk pretty regularly - it is really nice and always makes me think of her!
