Nielsen Online’s List of 50 Power Moms

BlogHer 08 - Heather Armstrong - Closing KeynoteBeing a new “Mommy Blogger”, I’ve been trying to find a list of useful and interesting  mommy blogs to follow. As luck would have it, I just had the pleasure of interviewing Stephanie Elie of BizzieMommy.com, and she was recently listed as one of Nielsen Online’s 50Power Moms.

So who are these power moms?  And how does one get on the list?

Nielsen Online’s List of 50 Power Moms  is a collection of leading mommy bloggers based on a blend of blog posts, comments and link love developed through ongoing monitoring of more than 10,000 mom and parenting blogs as tracked by Nielsen Buzzmetrics. It also takes into account the number of Twitter followers, ratings and other metrics to provide a comprehensive sphere of authority and influence.

The great thing about the list is it categorizes influential mommy bloggers based on what their blog focuses on:  saving money, reviewing products, parenting, going green, travel, spirituality, technology, and working.

At the end it lists the “Power Pack” of mommy bloggers who defy categorization(we totally kiss the ground they walk on) such as Heather Armstrong, Lisa Belkin, and Jenny Lawson.

You should check out the full list of 50 power moms and add some of the moms to your reader or favorites list, because these moms have their finger on the pulse of motherhood.

Buzz A Mom: Stephanie Elie

buzz-a-mom-real3Our Buzz a mom this week is the very entertaining Stephanie Elie of BizzieMommy.com. She’s a transitional entrepreneur and mother of two children under the age of four. She was recently listed in the Power Moms 50 list by Nielsen Online, so she is definitely a mom to watch.

Tell us a little about your background and your family.stephanie-elie

I live in Southern California with my two children and husband. We have a very busy 18 month old son and a daughter who is turning 4 next week. I am currently working full-time out of the home while balancing my blog BizzieMommy.com, store LaLaBabyBoutique.com and joint venture with my sister thinkorganicbaby.com.

In your bio, you write that you hope you can inspire other hard working moms to venture out into the wahm life. What helped you make the transition from wanting to become a WAHM, to actually being one?

I’m still in transition and hoping to completely move over to wahm at the end of the year. My desire to make the transition steamed from several things actually, the birth of my son and my desire to spend more time with my kids, a layoff immediately after returning from my maternity leave and the steady growth of my online baby boutique. Is Your Sunscreen Safe For Your Family?

line of defenseI live in Texas, and being married to a water polo player and mother of a sun loving tot, I’m a little bit freaked out about skin cancer.  I’ve always believed in using natural products for my family as much as possible, but when it comes to sunscreen, I grab the most well-known, mainstream product on the shelf due to this fear.

I recently found out about the Environmental Working Group’s investigation of nearly 1,000 brand-name sunscreen products. It found that 4 out of 5 sunscreens either contain chemicals that may pose health hazards or don’t adequately protect skin from the sun’s damaging rays. And some of the worst offenders are leading brands like Coppertone, Banana Boat, and Neutrogena. [Read more...]
