Moms Turn Away from TV and Towards Blogs

Darren Rowse, the voice behind Problogger.net, has a fascinating post written by Michelle Mitchell (Scribbet) on why mom blogs are becoming the blogs to watch. As more moms turn off TV and log on to the ‘net, they tune in to the information, companionship, and resources found on mom blogs.

In addition, new mom blogs are popping up rapidly, adding to the plethora of information, niche areas, photos, sharing and humor found on many blogs. And as we all know, moms don’t just blog about being moms.

They blog about everything from the good and bad aspects of being a mom to being the economic decision-maker of the family, to solving the world’s economic and environmental problems. All in a day’s work.

Better Me Update: Day 43

better-me-125Can’t believe how fast the time is flying by.  This challenge is almost over!  I’ve got good news to report.  I’ve lost 21 pounds so far :)

Yesterday at my nieces she told me that Willow (18 months) weighs 21 pounds – so I picked her up and marveled at how much 21 pounds really is.  I’ve lost a whole Willow!

A full week of lo-carb is behind me.  I’m still enjoying it – though I’m really looking forward to this Girls Weekend and some yummy treats :)

My favorite lo-carb snack is Planters Kettle Roasted Peanuts.  They are unbelievably crunchy – and crunchy is hard to come by on a lo-carb diet so it is much appreciated.

My least favorite lo-carb snack is the really gross Adkins caramel chocolate chewy bar that I tried today.  The first bite was deceptive – I thought I’d be loving the opportunity to enjoy something sweet.  But no – it wasn’t sweet at all and the taste and texture was not pleasing.

On other fronts…

I finally sat down and worked out my personal budget.  I’m so glad I did!  With my income I should be regularly saving money and I haven’t done anything above my regular retirement fund deposit.  I created a budget that should help me fund an emergency account in just  a few months.

Why I Want to be a Better Me

I want to enjoy the rest of my life.  I’m feeling so energetic and it’s been awhile since I felt any of my usual aches and pains.  I am feeling really confident about the future and I like that!

Though Provoking Posts from the Past Week.

Profitable Mommy Blogging -Do You Have To Be Thin and Beautiful to be a Popular Mom Blogger? was food for thought and maybe a bit discouraging. I am using all of my remaining mom brain cells just to learn blogging and now I find there is an “A-List” of thin and beautiful mom bloggers? One more thing for me to be neurotic about? Somehow I thought that the looks and weight issues would pass as women got older. Wouldn’t it be great if we could learn to revere the wisdom of the older women who have left the fleeting things of youth behind and have such a wealth of life experiences to share with us?

A Cowboy’s Wife – Day 1 of Rattlesnake Hunting – Ewww. I could actually do this myself. We have pygmy rattlesnakes, water moccasins by the dozens and the occasional diamondback. Maybe even throw in a gator. I’ll have to file this one under future blog post ideas for my blog!

5 Minutes for Special Needs Classified Ads – A great new service from a great website!

Lifefrommylaptom.com – Taming Mt. Laundry – Glad to know that it’s not just me.

CoffeeSoup – Breathe Deeply – I don’t think my daughter would appreciate my documenting her driving experiences! Somehow it’s therapeutic to watch someone else go through it.

Profitable Mommy – Blogger Affirmations – Definitely one to reread at least once or twice a week.

CityMama.typepad.com – Dear Cyber-Bullies, Your Moms are On Facebook! A sad commentary on the times we live in. Hopefully more and more parents will stand up for their kids and out these bullies.

A Free Resource for Moms on Vaccinating Kids

It seems that whether or not to vaccinate your child, or how often to vaccinate, is now a controversial subject. Some moms refrain from having a child vaccinated, while others want shots given at intervals rather than in the typical series of shots recommended by most pediatricians.

Some alternative health practitioners and advocates don’t necessarily advise vaccinations be given, while mainstream health professionals continue to stress the importance of routine immunizations.

As a way to offer mothers a sense of clarity on the issue, the author of the bestselling book, “What to Expect When You are Expecting,” offers a free resource regarding childhood vaccines. The Mom Salon has an interview with Heidi Murkoff, as well as links to her free website link, “What to Expect Guide to Immunizations.”

With recent outbreaks of mumps, measles and pertussis (whooping cough) in the U.S., all of which are preventable diseases, Murkoff’s free guide is informative reading for all moms.
