7 Ways To Use Cream Cheese

Cream cheese is a derivative of fresh, un-aged cheese that comes from cow’s milk. It was created in the United States in the late 1800’s and is extremely popular today, adding texture, delicious taste and richness to many types of recipes. There are all kinds of ways to use this scrumptious cheese; below are some of the most used.

Facing The Future With The Right Attitude

Are you living a life that has not been focused on having optimum good health?

For many living in denial about our health is a great way to avoid or not face the reality of the choices we may have been making. Having that second helping of ice-cream or having too many take out or just eating way too much is why most overweight people avoid getting on the scales or looking in a mirror.

Teens and Texting – What are Your Rules?

kiwanja_san_francisco_texting_11My husband and I recently decided to buy our 11 and 13-year-olds new cell phones that had better text messaging capabilities. While their old phones worked great for making quick calls to have me pick them up, they weren’t text friendly and sometimes cut off in mid-sentence.

With a new, unlimited monthly text plan in place and a cool new cell for each kid, I thought we were set. But I was shocked at the first bill that arrived: my son had sent 7,000 text messages and also incurred expensive downloading charges for Internet searches and ring tones.

We negotiated with the provider to reduce the charges and put blocks on how the phones were used, but now I’m wondering what rules and guidelines I need to put in place.

What are your rules? Do kids like to text each other more than they talk to each other?

Moving Reveals Hoarding Issues

Moving truckWe recently moved from Las Vegas to a small town in Southern California. After 18 years of living in Las Vegas, but not all in the same location, I thought making a move would be easy and do-able. An exciting adventure. All I needed was to print out tip sheets from the internet on when to pack, what to pack and how to change my mailing address. Simple steps, right? “Step 18: Transfer school records to new school.”

What I didn’t plan on, though, was how hard and stressful a move could be. Even though I thought we had gone through closets and drawers and donated and purged everything to make our Vegas house sparkle for the potential new buyers, when the movers arrived, it took them 2 1/2 days to pack all our “stuff.” [Read more...]

Should Cell Phone Towers Be Built On School Grounds?

What cell tower?!?Many schools are allowing cell phone towers to be built on school grounds. Schools and supporters say that this is a source of revenue in a tough economic climate. There are large financial gains for the school from leasing the space and from contracts with cellphone companies.

Parents worry about the harmful emissions. Federal regulations state that “when cellular and PCS antennas are mounted at rooftop locations it is possible that a person could encounter RF levels greater than those typically encountered on the ground.

However, once again, exposures approaching or exceeding the safety guidelines are only likely to be encountered very close to and directly in front of the antennas.”

I think that as there is no long term evidence of the safety of these structures, I would rather err on the side of caution and not allow these towers to be built in proximity of schoolchildren.
