Weight Loss Update: Darned Backstroke!

I had a feeling this morning when I woke up that I might not have a happy weigh in today.  It’s coming up on ‘that time of the month’ and I feel puffy.

Sure enough, the scale said I had put 2.4 pounds back on.  (The exact amount I lost last week.)

I know it’s just period bloat.  I have followed the program perfectly and have even upped my activity level.  One of the Weight Watcher’s leaders said that she can count on a three pound gain at that time of the month like clockwork.  I’m not going to get in the dumps about it.

My sis lost another two pounds. Yay Sis!

Is it Safe to Color Your Hair While Pregnant?

This article was written by Guest Blogger Meri Scals from Maternity Salon.

By far this is one of the most asked questions in the salon industry today. We thrive on maintaining a trendy and fashionable look for the workplace which, lets face it, is where many women are today. So, to answer the question, here is my professional opinion: first and foremost follow your doctor’s instructions, second follow your gut and own personal feelings on this choice.

The facts and findings are as follows:

the light within1. To date there is no concrete evidence on this topic through studies or research to prove that any type of hair coloring is unsafe.

2. In the past 23 years in the industry many colorists and stylists have continued to color their own hair while pregnant, primarily due to the knowledge of the variety of different procedures available in color application.

3. There are a number of choices available today in hair coloring, including but not limited to off the scalp hi-liting, non aggressive demi-colors, rinses and so many more. [Read more...]

Keeping the Microwave Clean

Tonight I tackled the kitchen that has been neglected for a few days. I had psyched myself up to do the dishes – but one glimpse into the microwave was enough to take the wind out of my sails.

I hate cleaning out the microwave.

I want the microwave to mysteriously clean itself every day – even if my son has cooked ravioli or I have heated up a Lean Pocket. Sadly, this has never happened ;)

Sean came to my rescue by taking a break from his video gaming to tackled the inside of the microwave with a vengeance. (Woohoo! Thank you Sean!)

I was chatting with my pal Chele when I realized I should have some microwave plate covers. It’s not like I don’t know what they are – I’ve just never bought one before – so I hit the web to do some shopping.

There’s quite a few options to choose from, more than I ever realized. Here’s a simple set of five plate covers in a variety of sizes and here’s a single plate cover that looks more sturdy.

They even make little covers for a cup of tea that even help the water heat up faster and floppy splatter screens for covering bowls and other odd shaped items.

After looking at all the options I decided to order this dome shaped microwave cover because it will work for both plates and bowls and it looks super easy to clean up.

Now to remember to use it!

Crocs? Do You Love ‘em or Hate ‘em?

How do you feel about Crocs?

I don’t own a pair and from the prices I see on this website, I’m not likely to buy a pair anytime soon – but I have to say that I think they’re pretty cute.

They’ve come out with some new styles, from a feminine flip flop to a pump to a fuzzy lined slip on.  I wonder if they will win over some long standing Croc haters?

I do own a pair of Airwalk shoes that are made in the same style as crocs – but no holes.  I wear them a lot in the winter when I’m running out for short trips.  Are they ugly?  I don’t think so, but I’m not that fussy ;)

What do you think about them?  Have the new styles changed your mind at all?

Weight Loss Update: Another Two Pounds Lost

I have to admit that losing 2.4 pounds isn’t nearly as exciting as losing 4.4 and 7 like my previous weeks, but I knew it was normal to settle into a one or two pound weekly loss so I’m not disappointed.

This brings my total loss up to 13.8 after three complete weeks on the Weight Watchers Flex Plan.  Not bad!

I’ve found some great low point meal ideas that I’m enjoying.  My appetite has really come down which is a relief.  I don’t spend most of the day trying to figure out how get more food in my belly.

I’ve been on two good walks this week.  Sean has been nice enough to walk along with me for the promise of a soft serve ice cream cone midway through.  I know that a walk with an ice cream reward seems to cancel each other out but don’t worry – I’m not exceeding my points allowance!
