Being a mom is the most glorious thing in the world but how do you feel:
- when the baby has spit up on you for the 5th time in a day
- you’ve broken a drippy sweat from loading and unloading kid stuff from the car after a day at the beach with Johnny’s 5 sticky friends
- the family dog has left a nice smelly present for you on your brand new carpet
Let’s just say . . . you feel less than sexy. Here are 10 Tips to help you feel like a Mom Goddess, no matter what you’ve endured during the course of the day.
- Schedule a 30 minute walk for yourself at least 5 days per week. This will accomplish several things. It will take off weight, relax you; and give you some quiet time for yourself. Walks are what strollers were invented for. If you can sneak out early in the morning or after dinner by yourself, that’s even better.
- Lay off sodas, mocha lattes and junk food. Drink water, eat healthy fruits and vegetables, and encourage your kids to do the same. You will all look more healthy and radiant.
- Comfortable is good, but ugly is ugly. A big sloppy T shirt with elastic band pants looks frumpy on everyone. Find some clothes that flatter your figure and make you feel good about yourself. They do not have to be expensive. Dresses can hide many figure flaws but avoid too short, too long, or too suggestive. Think Audrey Hepburn or Jackie O.
- Keep your hair, nails and toes in shape. Update your hairdo with something that is cute and easy to take care of. No mullets please. Forget about acrylic fingernails. Keep them sport length with clear polish. For toes, a nice bright polish looks stylish. Avoid cute little daisies and sparkles. They look tacky. Slather a creamy foot lotion on as soon as you get out of the shower and at night before you go to bed.
- For makeup . . . wear at least a little. You don’t have to look like you’ve stepped out of a fashion magazine. Try a 5 minute makeup routine. Use tinted Moisturizer with SPF or pressed powder, a highlighter on your eyes, mascara, bronzer or blush, and lip gloss.
- Listen to soft soothing music when you’re driving in your car or at home. Avoid sitting in front of the TV watching Jerry Springer or a mean spirited reality show. Keep your mind-set positive.
- When your children are napping, take at least 10 minutes to meditate, read or work in your garden.
- Always make sure to schedule a weekly date night with your man or, if you’re single, a time to spend out with friends. It’s important to have “adult” time for yourself. A weekend getaway every once in a while is important too. Your kids will survive.
- Develop a hobby or business if you’re a stay at home mom. Your children will be grown up before you know it and it’s important to have something purposeful to do along with taking care of your family.
- Take a long luxurious bath, pop a yummy chocolate in your mouth and RELAX.
